Art Start Alien at Victoria Station

Art Start at Victoria Station - saving London from Aliens and promoting the Mayor's Thames Festival 2011. You can see more photos here. And find out details and times of the Thames Festival here. Art Start will be taking part in the Night Carnival Parade on Sunday 11 September.

Marvellous mosaics and Crafty Arts

Over the summer and autumn months we have been busy working on some fantastic mosaic and craft projects. We are planning to develop this work both in schools and at our studios.

St George is a very special mosaic created using traditional smalti and 24ct gold leaf tiles.

The Cow is a mosaic example of 3D work that we hope to develop in community projects over the spring.

We have worked with young people to create mosaic portraits of Black British Celebrities which will be installed at the Enfield Youth Offending Service offices.

Will's less famous portrait

This William Shakespeare mosaic is a depiction of the less famous portrait that hangs in the National Portrait Gallery.

The Craft Centre.

This new initiative is developing with our Junior Arts Club where children aged 8 – 13 years work on a wide variety of craft based activities and projects.

We will be creating a whole group piece of art to be exhibited in the spring using textiles, felt making, mosaics and wire work.

Derelict hut - now a stunning artwork

Art Start and the Friends of Bush Hill Park working with the local community have enabled the transformation of a derelict hut into a stunning work of art.
Designed by children from Bush Hill Park and George Spicer Primary Schools.

Ferry Lane Primary School

Our first project in this school working with pupils from years 4, 5 & 6.

Taking the theme of Every Child Matters and incorporating it into the school logo the children painted and made mosaics of ferry boats to enhance the entrance to the school.

Haselbury Infants Farm Mosaics

Children from year 1 created giant chickens, a rabbit and an entrance to go on the fence of their new Cherry Tree Farm.

Highfield Primary School

A new set of mosaics for the visitors entrance to the school created by year 6 pupils.

Longer term projects

Winchmore Secondary School

Mosaics for the entrance to the Art Department working with their Arts Ambassadors.

Cuckoo Hall Primary School

Year 1 textiles project. Working with 90 year 1 pupils teaching them sewing skills to produce a fantastic wall hanging.

Eldon Infant and Junior Schools

After school art clubs to create mosaics for the entrances to the schools.

More details will be uploaded at the end of the summer term.

A New Craft Centre

We have exciting plans to develop a new Craft Centre.

This facility will enable us to run workshops here at Art Start with schools, groups and other service providers.

The Craft Centre will be a space for schools and local people to come and GET CREATIVE.

We are currently working on some very special craft and mosaic projects which will form part of a fantastic exhibition later in the year.
